Emma, a 14-year-old poodle, was dropped off at a shelter in a cage, with a fluffy blanket and a few toys.
She weighed only four pounds.
As soon as Adrian Lott and Spencer Erickson of Seattle, Washington, saw a photo of little Emma, they knew they had to adopt her.
Two weeks later, Emma was finally in her forever home.
Emma’s Adoption Story
When Emma arrived at her new home in Seattle, she was a little skeptical at first. Not only was she terrified, but she also needed lots of medical care.
“We believe she was severely neglected before she was brought to the shelter. Her spine was very curved and she was shaking terribly on her hind legs.” Lott said Newsweek.
Emma was barely able to stand or walk, even though she weighed less than four pounds. terrible general condition and I needed urgent dental care.
However, her new parents were so in love with her that they were determined to do whatever they could to help her stay with them for a while. as long as possible.
“She developed a connection with me pretty quickly. As she healed and settled into our home, she started following me from room to room and really liked to curl up on my lap,” Lott said.
Emma was visibly shaking during the first few days in her future home, probably because of the fear and trauma of everything she had been through.
However, once she finally realized that she wasn’t going anywhere and that her new parents truly loved her, she finally stopped shaking.

In his forever home
When they brought Emma home, they honestly thought she would only live a few months, because she was in such a terrible state.
Not only did Emma exceed their expectations, but She recently celebrated her second birthday in her forever home.
“Considering she’s two years old and doesn’t seem to be done with her treatment yet… I’m so grateful. Our joke is she’ll never die. Emma’s veterinary team said Friday that she was ‘mostly exhausted,'” Emma’s parents wrote about Instagram.
A little love goes a long way.
Emma is living her best life with four other senior dogs at home.
She gained weight and had hip surgery that dramatically improved her quality of life, but most importantly, she discovered what true love means.
“When you have a senior dog and you don’t know how much time you’re going to get with him, you enjoy every second. He’ll be happy and safe with us for as long as he is. He’ll never again wonder if he matters.” Emma’s mother said GeoBeats Animals.
