There are so many things we can learn from our four-legged friends about relationships, love, and being kind to others. Although our dogs can’t talk, they can teach us valuable lessons.
Maggie, a crossbred dog from Australia, did an incredible thing for the puppies who were barking and whining from their kennels: she literally snuck out of her house to find these poor babies and comfort them in the best way possible.
To be honest, I’m not sure many hoomans would do something similar to what Maggie did, which is why she’s an amazing dog with a big heart and a lot of courage.
Maternal instincts kick in
Maggie is an adult dog who was left Barkers Pet Motel and Grooming for a few nights until its owners return.
He is an excellent doggie who has never caused any major problems, even when other doggies are around. So it was even more surprising to find her outside her kennel.
However, it didn’t take long for the staff to figure out what was really going on, especially when they saw Maggie on the surveillance camera lying in front of a particular kennel.
Inside were two nine-week-old puppies, weaned from their mother not long ago, and they spent most of their time crying.
Considering that Maggie had a litter just a little while before being adopted (also weaned from her), it was completely understandable that she wanted to find the little ones and comfort them.
As Sandi Aldred, the owner of the guesthouse, described it to the Radio-CanadaShe finished work early and went to dinner at a local restaurant when she took out her phone to check the situation in the kennel.
And there was quite a sight to see: Maggie was sitting very far from her kennel, in front of the enclosure with the puppies.
This mother dog tried to get as close as possible to the puppies so she could try to kiss them (lick them) and play with them.
“Sneaky” Maggie found a way to the puppies
Aldred was interested in how Maggie got out, so she rewound the footage from that night to when she was looking to get out of her kennel.
This clever and sneaky dog climbed through the opening of a built-in water bowl and immediately went to the kennel where the puppies were placed, as Aldred told CBC:
“We watched her on the cameras, and she went around and found their room. She was paying them a lot of attention and you could see her little tail wagging. And she would give them a little bow and push them through the screen door to their room.»
Aldred realized there was nothing they could do other than let her into the puppies’ kennel so she could comfort them.
“She just decided that’s where she was going to stay until we came to pick her up:»
A match made in heaven…
Aldred came back immediately after dinner to see Maggie. Which she wasn’t expecting, but she came across Maggie standing right outside the door, just waiting for someone to let her in with the puppies.
As Aldred told CBC, Maggie was so excited that she led her straight to the puppy kennel door, knowing Aldred would eventually let her in.
As soon as Maggie walked into the kennel, it was more than obvious that these three dogs were meant to be there.
“The puppies needed her and she needed them. It was pretty perfect.»
The happy trio stayed together all night and were still cuddling in the morning. But unfortunately, their fairy tale soon came to an end.
…But it can’t last forever
The night with the puppies was actually Maggie’s last night at the boarding center, since her owners came to pick her up the next day.
They were excited to hear about the sweet bond between the dogs, but they couldn’t keep her there any longer because they too wanted to spend quality time with their new pet.
Still, Aldred couldn’t let Maggie’s parents go before showing them how great she was with little dogs.
Maggie’s owners weren’t as surprised by her mother’s instinct. They told Aldred that after her litter was taken away from her, she began caring for another litter in the shelter before adopting it.
Therefore, they are already well aware of the fact that they indeed own a special dog.
As for puppies, there is nothing to worry about. Maggie left them in the safe hands of the boarding staff, who also fell in love with the puppies, and they hope these two cuties will also find forever homes soon enough.
