One morning, the officers of DeKalb County Animal Services in Georgia, saw a heartbreaking sight right outside their shelter.
Someone had abandoned their Pitbull puppy in a single cardboard box filled with plums. The poor puppy was emaciated and terrified, and refused to leave his little box even when shelter staff took him inside.
No matter what the shelter did, the puppy, who they decided to name Plum, wouldn’t leave the box.
Abandoned and scared
Plum was so scared and sad because his family had heartlessly abandoned him.
“We just wanted to hug him, make him feel better and let him know he was safe. We set up a cute cage with a soft bed and some treats, and left the door open, hoping he would come in on his own. Karen from LifeLine Animal Project said The Dodo.
It took weeks for Plum to break out of his box, but eventually, once he felt connected to a few shelter workers, he eventually began exploring the area.
When he started to slowly come out of his box (and shell), the shelter could really see what a wonderful dog he was.
“When Plum arrived, he couldn’t leave the safety of his box. He has made so much progress and we love seeing his personality blossom. » LifeLine Animal Project wrote on its Facebook job.
Plum quickly bonded with the shelter staff, which wasn’t a surprise because he was always so sweet and cuddly.
Little by little, his silly and funny side also resurfaced, to everyone’s greatest pleasure.
After weeks of working with him to overcome his fears, they were finally able to say that he would be fine after all.
“We wanted him to have his happy ever after, so we started posting about him, and it wasn’t until a month later that his adopter came and brushed him off, and the same,” Karen said.
Plum was coming home, but this time, forever!
Plum Go Home
This sweet boy was adopted by a wonderful woman named Melonie, from Atlanta, Georgia. For Melonie, it was love at first sight and she immediately knew she had to adopt him.
“He had what seemed like, you know, an old soul, or something that stood out and drew our attention to him,” Melonie told the Dodo.
When Plum was first adopted, he was still a skinny little puppy, but he has gained almost 20 pounds and looks much healthier.
He even has a few four-legged friends in his new home that he loves to play with. They seemed to be the perfect combination for each other.
According to Melonie, Plum is the sweetest dog ever, but he can also be very silly. One of his favorite activities is to lie upside down on the grass and roll around.
“He falls asleep very easily and snores very loudly. He may fall asleep in the most awkward positions, or in the most uncomfortable furniture. He truly is a sleep connoisseur. Mélonie also said.
Even though Plum’s life started off rough, he is now a very happy boy and I couldn’t be happier for him.
