After a very stormy night in San Antonio, SA Animal Care Services Staff arrived at work early to discover a mysterious green tarp in their parking lot.

Immediately concerned, they approached the tarp to investigate. When they lifted the sodden tarpaulin and saw what was hidden beneath, their hearts sank a little.

Six eyes looked at them with utter confusion and terror…

A trio of dogs abandoned in the rain

Abandoned in cages and left in the rain two German shepherds and a little chihuahua.

Three innocent puppies were mercilessly abandoned in terrible weather conditions and left under this green plastic sheet. They were completely terrified and didn’t understand why someone they probably considered family would abandon them like this.

Lisa Norwood, Public Relations Manager City of San Antonio Animal Care Servicessaid The Dodo:

“Every time something like this happens, we get sad and a little frustrated. We experienced a series of severe storms, and I can only imagine their fear of the traffic, heavy rain, and thunder.

Once staff realized the dogs were under the trap, they quickly called for backup and transported these three wet and frightened dogs to the shelter.

They quickly brought the dogs to a warm place and gave them food and water.

One German Shepherd was named Peaches and the other was Cyrus. The little Chihuahua puppy’s name was Gabby.

Finding their forever home

Norwood told the Dodo: “Peaches and Gabby seemed a little calmer and were easier to deal with. Cyrus was very scared by the whole experience and took the time to get used to everyone.

Poor Cyrus was deeply saddened and traumatized by the whole situation, and he just needed more time to process everything and calm down.

The stray animal situation in San Antonio is slowly getting out of control and animal shelters are being opened. simply overpopulated with abandoned animals every day.

They wrote on their Instagram profile:

“Innocent puppies abandoned under a tarp in the rain… stray animals terrorizing neighborhood children… sheltered kennels filled to the brim with unwanted animals… This is just a taste of what the animal control services are dealing with. animal protection fight day after day. This is the reality of our municipal animal shelter.

Struggling with capacity and overpopulation of stray dogs, San Antonio Animal Services knew the dogs couldn’t stay in their shelter for too long.

Luckily, Peaches and Gabby were quickly adopted.

Cyrus, meanwhile, needed more time to recover and find his forever home. He was therefore transferred to German Shepherd Rescue of NY, Inc – a non-profit organization that saves GSDs from euthanasia lists.

According to GSRNY Facebook pagesweet boy Cyrus was also adopted – shortly after.

We are so happy that these adorable dogs have finally found their happily ever after, and we hope they are never abandoned or experience this terror again.
