No matter how much we love our furry companions, sometimes it’s just not meant to be.
Milo and his owner had a wonderful time together, but fate had it otherwise. Due to a sudden change of events, the owner had to surrender his dog to a shelter, making the most difficult decision of his life.
When Georgia shelter workers found the dog and the heartbreaking note the next day, their reaction warmed many people’s hearts!
Here is what happened…
Empathy and understanding
Instead of judging Milo’s owner for abandoning his dog in front of a shelter and then walking away, LifeLine Animal Projectfrom Atlanta, Georgia, surprised everyone with her heartfelt response.
After carefully reading the message that Milo’s owner left for the dog, the team decided to write an open letter to their man.
“What a courageous act of self-sacrifice to risk scorn and judgment while trying to do what was best for Milo.” they wrote among other things.
Milo was obviously very loved by his owner. In the note left next to the dog, the owner explained that he had lost his home and could no longer care for his dog.
“Please don’t judge me on this one act…I am homeless and cannot complete the tasks necessary to care for him,” he wrote.
He tried to rehouse Milo or at least find him a foster family, but both options failed.
Then, instead of abandoning his dog in the street, he did what was best for him: handed Milo over to the people who would take care of him. The owner provided all the details about Milo, including his age, name, vaccination status, favorite food and behavioral traits.
Very quickly, the shelter’s intervention warmed the hearts of thousands of people. In their open letter, they state that they perfectly understood the situation and sympathized with the difficult decision of the owner.
They expressed their deepest gratitude to the owner for showing responsibility and leaving the dog in a safe place.
Milo gets another chance
Although they were never able to contact his original owner, the good news came a few months later.
An extraordinary family arrived with the sole purpose of adopting a dog – and they immediately fell in love with Milo. As soon as they saw Milo lying in his cage, they knew he was supposed to be their dog.!
What’s even more amazing is that the family wanted to name their future dog, Milo, and when they came to fill out the paperwork, they didn’t know they already had a dog with that exact name!
Despite his difficult past, Milo has completely transformed in his new home. He has become a wonderful companion, and he is without a doubt the biggest cuddle bug!
When he’s not entertaining everyone with his unique personality, Milo loves shopping!

The family also sent a public message to Milo’s former owner, stating that he was perfectly fine.
“He’s going to go on to live a really fun, adventurous, travel-filled life,” they said.
Milo is loved by many, he has a beautiful comfortable home and many friends who truly love him.. Even though he lost his home once, Milo is now the happiest boy living life to the fullest!
