The situation in overcrowded shelters is getting worse every day. Shelter workers, dog lovers, and dog enthusiasts constantly point to alarming data about the number of dogs left in shelters.
Unfortunately, for many people, these are just numbers. They are often unable to understand that these are living beings behind which many sad and dramatic stories are hidden.
This is exactly why we try to share as many stories like this as possible to raise awareness about this issue, and today’s story is one of them.
It’s about a shelter dog named Carlo whose gaze peers through a crack in his kennel every day. He always hopes that someone will come and pick him up and bring him happiness.
Heartbreaking look
Carlo, a six-year-old dog, who has already lived in Longmont Humane Societyan animal shelter located in Longmont, Colorado dreams of a forever home every day.
The shelter workers and volunteers who fell in love with him during the months he spent there noticed his desire in a special way. This can be best seen in a TikTok video shared by @3coloradodogs.
“When you look through the crack of your kennel every day, waiting patiently for someone to finally come and get you,” it’s written in the video. “And all you can do is hope that someone will finally notice you.”
The video shows Carlo’s daily desire for a forever homewhat he demonstrates through his heartbreaking gaze peeks out from the crack of the kennel.

Her sad reality is something that motivated these people to share the video on TikTok in the hopes that it would help her experience her happy ending.
“Every time he looks through the crack it makes me a little sad because I know he wants to be adopted so bad and he’s just looking for his forever person,” Shellby Hall, a shelter volunteer, said News week.
Still, Hall also pointed out that she’s very happy for Carlo because he always gets excited when he sees her go through that crack because he knows it’s time to go for a walk with her.
Precisely because of this positive energy despite all the difficulties, she would love to see him with someone that Carlo could hope for even more often in the same way.

Since Hall shared the video on TikTok, Carlo’s heartbreaking look has not only been seen by employees and volunteers at the Longmont, Colorado, shelter, but by many people around the world.
