It’s truly a horrible thing to see a nice dog who has done nothing wrong go through so many trials of life alone with no one to help him.
When Ryder was first found by California rescuers working for Dogwood Animal Rescuehe was just in horrible condition.
They were shocked by his appearance and realized he would need extensive treatment and care if he was to pull through.
So, without wasting any more time, they decided to immediately take him to the organization where they could help him.
He will get through it
When they finally brought Ryder to the shelter in California, everyone understood how malnourished he was.
They immediately started treating him but I knew right away that results were going to be slow. This was evident when the dog began to ooze blood or vomit up whatever it was eating.
This was not going to be an easy solution. Her rescuers feared more serious problems like aspiration pneumonia, but they couldn’t help her.
His body, at the moment, simply could not tolerate these medications. So they had to give Ryder injections because it was the only thing they could do at that time.
He would also receive skin treatments for his scabies problem, and now all they had to do was wait and see if the treatment would work.
As the days went by, the staff noticed that Ryder’s body had healed a lot in so little time. Everyone was surprised.
Ryder has a problem
His fur was also starting to heal well and he looked much better now. The rescuers allowed him to meet up with other dogs at the shelter and start playing a little.
Although Ryder made impressive progress in a short time, further vet visits and exams revealed something else.
It was megaesophagus. This meant his esophagus was bigger than it should be, and it caused him problems eating.
He can’t transport food properly, which is a huge problem. This also explains the vomiting and why his body rejects conventional medications.
However, the situation was not so dire. There were still things they could do to help him live a normal life.
A brilliant solution
Rocky Kanaka is a dog rescuer who also took in a dog with the same problem as Ryder. They understood how to care for their dog, which was good news for this puppy.
What they did was simple. They gave him food that had a “smoothie-like consistency” and then had him eat in an upright position, using a specially designed chair.
The assistance of gravity would allow the esophagus to do what it is supposed to do and would also reduce the risk of further complications.
It was actually a brilliant solution, and Ryder’s rescue team immediately decided to try this treatment.
Ryder has made a wonderful transformation during his time at the shelter, and everyone is very proud of him.
The rescue team will work diligently to ensure this sweet dog can find a home this will take care of him properly.
In the meantime, he will stay with the wonderful people at Dogwood Animal Rescue who will continue to help him and give him lots of love.
