Working at an animal shelter is by no means an easy job. This comes with many challenges and these organizations sometimes run into problems.
Smaller shelters sometimes take in more animals than they can care for, which immediately leads to problems like lack of food.
Sometimes dogs who live in overcrowded shelters may have difficulty because taking care of them is very difficult for rescuers. This is not necessarily wrong, because they are always trying to help.
However, what’s wrong is how this sweet dog spent a lot of time in a small shelter where he was abused and neglected by other people.
These people had no interest in helping dogs and that is simply wrong. Fortunately, he was transferred to another facility where he was able to receive the help he deserved.
Tori’s fight
When Tori was first taken to a nicer shelter where people actually cared about the dogs, he couldn’t trust anyone.
He was completely frozen with fear and his rescuers were heartbroken by what he experienced. Tori was simply the sweetest puppy who had ever done anything to deserve this treatment.
No matter what his rescuers did at first, Tori didn’t respond. He tried to avoid physical contact with the shelter workers, not knowing that they just wanted to help.
Regardless, his amazing rescuers continued to help him, which led to a small improvement. They noticed that he was gradually more interested in seeing people.
There was a little glimmer of confidence and they knew it was the right way to do it. There was even a little tail wag, which is always a good sign.
This was all great, but even the shelter workers knew that staying here too long wouldn’t help Tori heal. They needed a new plan.
Tori’s transformation
One of the rescuers took him to her house so he can experience what it means to live in a loving home with someone who cares about him.
At first he was withdrawn and rarely left his kennel, but that would slowly change. After about 2 months, he slept next to his rescuer. It was incredible progress.
This would continue to happen. Tori was becoming much more relaxed and he started acting more like a happy, loved dog.
His mood and behavior changed dramatically and he began to enjoy life. Her rescuer took her for walks and they played regularly.
After about 5 months, he was a completely transformed dog. His weight had also increased and it seemed like he was finally happy to be with someone special.
Even though his journey was difficult, it was thanks to these extraordinary people that he was able to find his way. He lives happily ever after with someone who cares about him deeply.
