I’ve seen a lot of animal cruelty, but it still breaks my heart to see people abandon animals that can’t survive on their own.
Special needs cases, or paralyzed dogs who definitely won’t make it on their own, find themselves in horrible situations because of negligent owners, and it’s just awful.
For Navidad, things weren’t so different. She was paralyzed and abandoned by her owners in the woods to starve to death.
Luckily for her, an elderly couple heard her screams and came to her rescue. When they brought her home, they immediately called for help.
They saved her just in time
When Mafe received information about Navidad, She rushed to the small town where the dog was. It took her a while to get there, but she managed to find it.
She met Navidad for the first time and was shocked by the state she was found in. The poor puppy wasn’t even afraid of anything anymore.
She seemed to understand that these people wanted what was best for her. Mafe took her back to the shelter to see a vet.
That’s when things changed. Mafe said The Dodo: “When we got to the rescue she was so confused and scared.“
They didn’t understand why his attitude had suddenly changed, but they did everything in their power to help Navidad.
The next day, the situation was reversed again. The puppy was so happy to see his rescuer and I spent a long time hugging her.
Because she was paralyzed, it was clear that she wouldn’t be able to move much anymore, but Mafe noticed that she still liked to move around in any way she could.
She had a lot of energy back and it was clearly visible. Naturally, the rescuers put her through intensive therapy to help her regain her strength. Navidad was so happy to do this as long as she was with her favorite people.
Christmas party is just lovely
After seeing that she was fine, they gave her a wheelchair. Mafe said: “She had a hard time getting used to it, but she seemed so happy every time she went for a walk.“
She developed an incredible relationship with her rescuer and I was always happy to go for walks with her. It was very important to her as she improved in using the wheelchair.
Another milestone was that Navidad’s skin had cleared up nicely and she had also gained a lot of weight back which was great.
When Mafe realized how well she was doing, it was time to take her to an animal sanctuary, where she could have some fun until they found her a new family.
Right now, she’s living her best life under the care of her rescuers, and it’s truly amazing to see her transform in such a short time.
Finally, Mafe said: “I would love to adopt Navidad, but I spend every day of my life trying to save other dogs like her, so I know she deserves a family that can give her all the time she deserves.“
Although we don’t know what the future holds for Navidad, I have no doubt she is fine in the sanctuary and will surely find someone special to adopt him.
