When Kaya Gwinn, founder of Shiloh Animal Rescuereceived a photo of a terrified mother dog and her four puppies abandoned in an orchard in Bakersfield, California, she knew she had to help them.
Emergency services took care of the canine family and placed them in an emergency foster family.
The dog, named Honey, was in very poor condition, underweight and covered in ticks and fleas. She also suffered from an old hip injury that caused her to limp.
Gwinn and his team assumed that Honey was kept in a yard and used for breeding.
After the dog spent time with his temporary foster family, Gwinn took over and brought the dog to her home in Los Osos.
That’s when Honey’s life began to change.
Learn to trust humans again
As soon as the dog moved in with her, the woman with the giant heart realized how traumatized Honey was.
All she wanted to do was hide from everyone and avoid any type of interaction. Honey felt insecure and constantly tried to make herself small.
Gwinn was convinced that Honey never had a real home.
The woman felt sad when she noticed that the dog often lay in the dirt. It was the only place she felt comfortable.
Gwinn could tell that the dog had never received what his heart desired most: human love.
“I think she always wanted someone to love her, but she never really received the affection she always wanted,” Gwinn said. Animals GeoBeats.
The kind human refused to abandon the dog.
Gwinn showered Honey with love and did everything she could to convince her that the world wasn’t a scary place.
Thanks to the dedication and love of his adoptive mother, Honey began to feel safe and her emotional wounds began to heal.
Although it was difficult, the resilient dog was eventually able to put her past behind her.
Discover love
Feeling loved was a new experience for Honey and it changed her life. She became extremely attached to her adoptive mother.
Since she was deprived of human love all her life, Honey takes every opportunity to cuddle Gwinn. She loves to fall on his lap and ask for cuddles.
Honey’s adoptive mother is impressed by her loving nature and considers her unique.
“I really feel connected to her. I just feel like she’s one of a kind. She helps me, you know, sometimes I’m stressed and I don’t know, just her collapsing on my lap makes me feel infinitely better and I love taking her everywhere,” Gwinn added.
To improve her mobility, Honey underwent hip surgery.
The doggie is doing very well. She still lives with Gwinn in Los Osos, California.
All four of Honey’s puppies were adopted into loving homes. The sweet momma dog hopes that she will also find her forever family who will give her their unconditional love.
