When a good Samaritan spotted a terrified puppy cowering behind a dumpster in an alley in St. Louis, Missouri, he called St. Louis Wandering Rescueasking for their help.
Donna Lochmann and her team immediately went to the scene.
Upon their arrival, they saw the dog, later named Joan of Bark, as she tried to hide from the world. She was silent and seemed resigned to her fate.
The moment Jeanne d’Écorce heard Lochmann’s voice, she turned her gaze towards her. Her beautiful eyes spoke of her grief and overwhelming fear.
Make her safe
Lochmann sat next to Jeanne d’Écorce and fed her Vienna sausages.
Although she was still unsure about everything, the hungry dog quickly ate the delicious meal.
After sitting with Jeanne d’Écorce for a while, her rescuer put a leash around the puppy’s neck.
As the frightened dog was reluctant to accompany him, Lochmann gave him time. Once the dog finally got up, her rescuers understood why she was so terrified.
Unfortunately, one of his back legs was broken. The rescue team was sad for the dog. They assumed she had been hit by a car.
Once the good people lured Jeanne d’Écorce into a crate, the rescuers reassured her that she was now safe.
“She is fearful and painful, but who wouldn’t be in her place? It’s okay baby, you’re safe now! We got you, ” St. Louis stray rescue shared in a post on Facebook.
They rushed her to the clinic, where the vet examined her and took an X-ray of her back leg.
The kind veterinary staff gave Jeanne d’Écorce a soothing bath, and the puppy loved it. She looked at her caregivers with eyes full of gratitude.
Although the veterinary team fought to save the dog’s leg, it unfortunately had to be amputated as it had been broken for some time.
After undergoing successful surgery, the brave dog began her road to recovery.
Receive lots of love
Once healed, Jeanne d’Écorce moved to a shelter.
The dog was relieved because she no longer felt any pain. Her rescuers showered their love on her, making her feel safe and adored.
Jeanne d’Écorce savored every moment she spent with her heroes. She loved to cuddle them.
Their love gave her hope that one day she would find her own humans who would love her unconditionally.
Despite being a tripod, the canine enjoyed her life. She loved zooming around the yard.
The Saint-Louis rescue placed Jeanne d’Écorce with a wonderful foster family. Although she was shy at first, the canine quickly settled in.
Jeanne d’Écorce was treated with affection by her host family. She was happy to have had the opportunity to experience the warmth and comfort of home.
The puppy made friends with his four-legged foster sister and loved spending time with her.
Wishing to finally have her own home, Jeanne d’Écorce began looking for her forever family.
We don’t know if his greatest wish has come true yet, but I’m sure that such an adorable puppy will soon have the chance to feel the unconditional love that only his parents can give him.
