As a proud dog owner, I admit that I have always been afraid that my dog would run away and get lost.
I just don’t know how I would handle this. The sudden feeling of dread would probably overwhelm me, but I would do my best to try and find my puppy.
Experiences like this are horrible for any dog-owning family, and it happens more often than you might think.
This family lost their adorable dog, Oakley, and for a long time they thought he wouldn’t come back. But then something unexpected happened.
Search for missing dogs
When Oakley’s family first reported their dog missing, Anakin’s Trails Stray and Pet Recovery took it upon himself to find him.
They learned that Oakley’s trainer had abandoned her and three other dogs on the road in South Carolina and simply left them there. Why could he have done this? Nobody really knows.
The dogs were barely a year old and they now lived in a difficult environment where they had no food or water.
The four puppies had to return to civilization to have any hope of survival. After the dogs were reported missing, many people called to ask where they were.
The team searching for the dogs spoke to various people in Greenville and tried to determine their exact location. It was not easy to follow their movements around the city.
Eventually, rescuers managed to find three out of four missing dogs. Even if they found them, it wasn’t easy to catch them.
At this point, it’s been months and they’ve adapted to the new situation. They were suspicious of others and helping them required a delicate approach.
Oakley, on the other hand, had yet to be seen. Rescuers would continue their search and try to save the dogs.
Eventually, they received information about a couple in South Carolina who were feeding two “stray” dogs. These two dogs were Oakley and Marley.
Oakley is finally safe
They asked nearby homeowners if they could set a trap. They agreed and all that remained was to wait.
Marley and Oakley showed up at the food trap. Unfortunately, a mother cat from the street also came inside and pushed Marley who was trying to enter.
This did not deter Oakley, who went inside and rescuers immediately rushed to the scene to try to help him. They saw that Marley was running away, so they tried to slow her down by calling her name.
She stopped for a brief second and then ran away. They couldn’t save Marley and the other dogs that night, but they won’t stop until they are all safe.
Oakley, on the other hand, was finally safe. As she spent more time with her rescuers, she realized they meant no harm.
She calmed down a bit and seemed happy to be with someone who treated her well. Shortly after, the rescue team informed her family that she had been found and that it was now time to reunite.
When she returned home after five months away, she was confused and didn’t quite understand what was happening.
But after looking at his mother for a bit, she remembered and immediately jumped into his arms. They were both so happy to see each other again.
It was a truly heartwarming reunion and I’m so happy to see Oakley can finally get on with her life with her incredible family.
