“Sisters function as a safety net in a chaotic world simply by being there for each other. » – Carol Saline.
She was his safety net, a shoulder to cry on.
When the owner gave Erica and Diamond, two Pitbull sisters, to a shelter in New York, everything changed for these dogs. But not for the better.
Unable to care for pregnant Erica and her future babies, the owner left her at the shelter.
However, as soon as Erica arrived, she was taken away by Twenty Legs Rescue because of his condition.
The organization didn’t know it… Everywhere Erica goes, her sister goes with her.
My sister is my safe harbor
She was agitated. They didn’t know what to do. When she arrived at the shelter, Erica seemed fine. But then, as if someone had flipped a switch, she changed her behavior. This mom-to-be became stressed and she wasn’t in labor yet.
Something was strange.
That’s when Twenty Paws Rescue discovered that a piece of Erica was missing: his sister, Diamant.
They rushed to bring Diamond to Erica because the other dog was also having issues with separation.
As soon as the dynamic duo was reunited, the stress faded and happiness joined the club.
Just two days later, Erica went into labor. It seemed that she was waiting for her sister to give birth to puppies.
It was hard, but giving birth is no walk in the park, especially when you give birth to 14 puppies. Luckily for Erica, she had Diamond by her side the whole time, supporting her like only a sister could.
Fourteen puppies were born, and only eleven of them survived. Diamond stayed by her sister’s side through the loss and what came next: raising the puppies.
We got it all
Giving birth tires a dog. No, it’s exhausting to the core!
Just when you finish pushing out the little ones, you have to lick and nurse them because they are hungry. And that’s just the beginning because baby puppies are always hungry.
Thinking Erica would need extra help breastfeeding, the rescue team had bottles ready for the little puppies. But, to everyone’s surprise, the bottles were not needed.
To help his dear sister, Diamond has also started nursing and nursing the puppies! The two sisters shared the litter and began raising them together. It wasn’t just Erica’s puppies; they also belonged to Diamond.
“When we noticed that Erica was so exhausted and wanted a break and Diamond was breastfeeding, we kind of replaced them, and Diamond just took over as Mama Bear and loved them, looked after them, fed them, was so patient with them. And after that they started feeding and grooming them together. Rachel from Twenty Paws Rescue said in a interview.
You know how they say: It takes a village to raise a child.
Well, in this case, it takes two Pitbull sisters to raise a large litter of 11 puppies together.
Erica and Diamond did their best and successfully raised the entire litter together.
The puppies were growing well and it was soon time to wean them and put them up for adoption. The good news is that all the puppies found their homes immediately. Not a single little one was waiting.
But do you know who is still waiting in their foster home in New York? Erica and Diamond.
The two Pittie girls still need your help and are looking for their perfect home – a place where they won’t be separated.
The incredible love of two sisters, Erica and Diamond, is beyond inspiring. We can learn a lot from animals, especially dogs. Seeing sister dog raises puppies as her own is one of the purest beauties in the canine world.
A mother is not the only one who gives birth. A mother is also the one who raises the baby. Diamond is not the biological mother, but she is one at heart and a damn good dog sister!
