Being separated from loved ones is probably one of the hardest things for dogs, but being abandoned on the street without even realizing it is simply indescribable!
For Fritter, the oldest dog, everything changed when his family from Southern California received an eviction notice. They packed up their belongings shortly after, leaving everything behind, even Fritter.
He was literally abandoned in front of the house, with no one to take care of him. In all the confusion, Fritter managed to make himself a small bed from an empty box that had been thrown into the garden…
Fritter hoped that each car would be the one of its returning owner.
This little puppy spent days waiting for his family to return, watching cars drive by and hoping that one of them would be his relative.
Neighbors made sure he had enough food and water, but that was all they could do because Fritter wouldn’t let them near him. He was visibly scared and in shock, not realizing that his ex-family had left him for good.
When neighbors found out the city was planning to demolish her family’s home, they contacted Suzette Hall, a local dog rescuer and volunteer Logan’s Legacy.
Hall did not hesitate to help this poor boy get away from inhumane conditions, and she went to the scene as soon as she was notified.
“He would literally wait on the street and hope every car would be his. He would go home and sleep in a box in the yard. Sometimes neighbors would leave food and water,” said Suzette.
Restoring Fritter’s confidence was no walk in the park
Suzette had set a humane trap with treats to lure Fritter into it, but he hadn’t even tried to enter it. He sat motionless in his box, wary of a strange woman calling out to him.
Eventually, Hall and her friend somehow managed to corner Fritter and put him in a crate.
He was literally shaking on the way Camino Pet Hospital in Irvine, California, but just before Suzette took him in for a veterinary exam, Fritter let her hug him.
This brief, particular moment was a turning point in their relationship, and likely the moment when Fritter realized that Suzette was trying to help him, not hurt him.
After an exam, he was transferred to Suzette’s for further care and socialization. It seemed like every day he was getting a little closer to his goal, and the goal was to make him the happy little puppy he once was.
It didn’t take long before he found the Pawfect family
Luckily, it didn’t take long for Fritter’s story to catch the attention of what seemed like his ideal family! A lovely wife and three other siblings became a permanent home for this old urchin, leaving all those lonely nights behind him!
“His frown was reversed. I am so happy for you, my dear boy! Your lonely nights are behind you. Your belly will always be full. No one will ever abandon you again.” Suzette wrote on her Facebook.
Once an abandoned dog crying in misery for his lost family, Fritter is now the happiest boy in the world!
