Being in a warm home with a loving family is every dog’s biggest dream. Unfortunately, many dogs these days don’t have that chance because most of them are forced to fend for themselves on the streets or spend their days in a shelter.
The best proof of this is the overcrowded shelters whose employees have to perform euthanasia in order to increase the capacity of these institutions.
This is a particularly difficult and sad situation for neglected and abused dogs who, due to their shyness and fear, are often overlooked by potential adopters.
However, the fact that miracles do happen is perfectly demonstrated by the case of a dog whose shyness helped him finally leave his kennel and settle into a permanent home.
“His heart couldn’t take it.”
When this family arrived at the BARCS Animal Shelter In Baltimore, Maryland, it was standard procedure to walk from kennel to kennel observing the dogs and considering which one to give a permanent home to.
At one point, their daughter broke away from them and walked toward a kennel where there was a dog that had not come to greet them. This dog remained in a small corner of the kennel, barely poking its head out.
The 16-year-old girl noticed that he was extremely shyand his sad look and his frightened expression touched her deep in her heart. She immediately asked the shelter staff to explain to her why this was so, and they did.
They said that he was abused and neglected and that the result was a terrible physical and mental state. After hearing this, the girl immediately urged her parents to adopt it Since “His heart couldn’t bear it.”

In later updates, you can see that they really did succeed. There were some difficulties, like dealing with anxiety, “flea bites” and health issues, but in the end, they managed to overcome all of that and Charlie, as they called him, was a brand new dog.

Since the girl’s mother posted a video via her TikTok profile, many people outside their home in Carroll County, Maryland, have been able to see the shy dog and a heartwarming scene of adoption.
Even though she knew it would attract a lot of attention, she couldn’t even believe it would go to this extent. There were many comments and we have highlighted some of them.

In the end, even the shelter staff couldn’t hide their joy at the adoption.
“We are very happy that Charlie’s family gave him a chance and welcomed him into their home,” BARCS said. “Like every animal that comes through our doors, he deserved a second chance. He got that and more. We are grateful for every adopter who can look past the initial kennel presence and save a life.”
