The recent Park Fire has wreaked havoc in Butte County, California. Nearby residents have been forced to evacuate their homes, leaving everything behind.

Among them was a dog owner with his two Rottweilers and their puppies who were trying to escape the fire when his truck stopped working.

Unfortunately, he had to abandon the truck, leaving the entire canine family in what seemed like a desperate situation.

Noble law

The man asked responders for the exact location of the truck, hoping for the best.

“The resident had to abandon the truck at the scene, which contained two adult Rottweilers and their puppies. The owner provided responders with the location of the truck, but the area was not immediately accessible due to the fire,” The Butte County Sheriff wrote in a Facebook Statement.

Luckily, one human decided to take a chance. Trevor Skraggs, from Butte County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue ServiceCalifornia, flew to the wildfire area with a helicopter to try to save the family of dogs in need.

Dropped off more than a mile from the indicated location, Skraggs immediately sprang into action. He searched the area from top to bottom until he finally came across the truck that matched the description.

When he finally opened it, he found the mother Rottweiler and all her puppies alivebut he was extremely tired and thirsty. Unfortunately, the male Rottie did not survive.

Skraggs knew that time was running out and that the real challenge was getting the four-legged family back to the helicopter. And yet, he did it in an incredible way!

After helping the Rottweiler family regain much-needed strength with water and a protein bar, the man got to work.

“After giving the mother and her pups water and bites of his protein bar, Trevor managed to get all five of them to follow the 2.5km to the helicopter.” BCS added.

The mother and her puppies are safe

Within hours, the canine family was safely on the helicopter with their rescuer. Despite the tragedy and the fact that they all needed to recover, the dogs seemed so grateful to have been saved.

Skraggs successfully transported the dogs to North Valley Animal Rescue Groupwhere they were taken for further care.

Skraggs’ heroic act made headlines across the country within days. As people read about this noble rescue mission, they couldn’t thank this kind-hearted man enough for his actions!

“Mr. Skaggs, thank you for your big heart that allowed you to save these dogs. You are a true hero with a big heart. I can’t thank you enough.” wrote a Facebook user.

“Thank you very much for helping and saving them.” another added.

The mother and her puppies are still recovering, but They will soon be reunited with their families.

“The mother and puppies are doing very well, and the owner is meeting them tonight. We will miss them,” NVADG wrote on Facebook.

Thanks Trevor! We really need more people like you!
