Rescuing animals in need is nothing new for the rescue team at Saving Hope (SHR)an animal shelter based in Fort Worth, Texas.

They spend their days roaming their beautiful city, searching for furry beings who desperately need a helping hand and a caring smile.

They don’t usually go out of Fort Worth on rescue missions; however, after seeing photos of a dog living in a cardboard box, they grabbed their gear and left.

Help is on the way

The journey was long — a whole 8 hours, but these amazing hoomas were determined to get this sweet baby to sleep in a warm bed when night has come.

“We had this pretty girl transported to the DFW area after seeing a picture of her in a cardboard box,” Saving Hope Rescue wrote about Facebook.

When volunteers finally arrived, they carefully placed the puppy, later named Ridley, in their car and took him to the SHR clinic where he was greeted with open arms, delicious treats and lots of kisses.

Unfortunate news

When she was rescued by the SHR crew, Ridley was a three-month-old puppy. And while she was a very happy, intelligent and playful puppy, A full medical examination showed vets that not everything was as perfect as it seemed.

“We discovered she had a serious heart defect that could only be repaired by balloon valvuloplasty at Texas A&M University,” SHR wrote.

Fortunately, while she was waiting for her procedure to be approvedRidley was taken in by a loving foster family which not only allowed him to unwind but also showed him what it was like to be a real puppy.

Her new family, as well as her foster siblings, reassured her that everything would be okay!

“Ridley is a 3 month old puppy, playful and loves big dogs and all humans. She is very intelligent and learns quickly… She is a little girl full of courage who has a lot of love to give!” Ridley’s adoptive parents wrote to SHR, then shared this information on Facebook.

The Fort Worth shelter worked tirelessly to raise funds for Ridley’s heart surgery as she enjoyed her time in her foster home, learning basic commands, mastering communication with other dogs, and realizing how much she loved playing with toys.

Although her heart remained a source of concern to her humans, seeing her happy and playful reassured them that she was a fighter.

A happy life

After months of waiting, the day has finally arrived. Ridley finally received the surgery that saved his life!

It’s no surprise that this incredible pup made it through surgery without any complications and is now recovering.

“[With] this operation will be a complete solution and she will be able to live a FULL life, SHR wrote on Facebook.

Ridley is expected to make a full recovery in no time and in the meantime, she is back with her foster family and telling her dog friends what a brave girl she was.

I’m sure that as soon as she is completely healed, she will find a loving forever home in no time that will be just as amazing as she is.

“She’s a perfect little pittie girl…” Erin O’Brien, her foster mother, wrote in a Facebook Comment.

Last word

There is no better feeling than seeing a formerly stray puppy living his best life and all this would be impossible without the awesome humans.

Not only did the Texas shelter and foster family give Ridley a second chance at life, they also made sure that life was full of love, happiness, and adventure.

Let this be your sign for head to your local shelter and give another four-legged friend a life worth living!
