Life is a miracle in itself, and it is a special kind of happiness when a litter of cute puppies comes into the world. This is how a Golden Retriever mom gave birth to wonderful little dogs in Pensacola, Florida.

However, this litter was like no other, and the main reason was a unique Goldie. Unlike other puppies whose coats were blond, which is the main characteristic of this breed, his was a different color.

Although the breeders were shocked at first, they quickly understood that this particularity worked in his favor.

Rare but beautiful occurrence

This litter of eight puppies came into the world on March 3, 2024. At first, the little ones were nothing special except, of course, their boundless kindness. However, upon closer inspection, breeders found that one puppy was different.

Carole DeBruler and her husband, Greg, breeders of Kennel Trésors d’Orlocated in Pensacola, Florida, were more than surprised when they saw that one puppy had a dark green tint.

“We were a little shocked” Carole said PEOPLE. In their 17 years of working in breeding light colored puppies, they have seen “a little green or a slight tint” several times, but never the coat which was entirely dark green.

Additionally, because everything green is usually “disappears immediately”, they tried that in this case as well. Unfortunately, it was all in vain.

“Mom cleans them, we clean them, and it comes off – hers didn’t.” said Carole. “It’s rare.”

However, after a few baths from Carole, as well as numerous “kisses” from her mother, puppy’s coat changed from dark green to bright lime green. Shamrock, as they called the baby dog, was now not only special but more beautiful than any “ordinary” puppy.

"And she stayed on lime for quite a while," Carole confirmed.

“A lucky dog”

Because she was such a special puppy, Carole and her husband decided to record a video about Shamrock and post it on their TikTok account, @living_the_golden_life.

They couldn’t have imagined how much attention it would attract. This video showed a mother Golden Retriever nursing her puppies, including the special one. Additionally, they explained how Shamrock’s fur turned such a specific color.

“This is a rare puppy whose white fur was stained with biliverdin in the womb,” it’s shown in the video. According to Livestock business, biliverdin is a pigment present in the bile of dogs and responsible for the green color of bilesometimes affecting the color of the puppy’s coat.

Carole and her family didn’t stop with this one video but continued to promote Shamrock, causing interest in her to skyrocket.

“I’m so excited to share Shamrock with the world,” said Carole. “He was a lucky dog!”

Over time, Shamrock grew and the green color of his fur slowly faded, leaving a beautiful golden coat – a trademark of every Golden Retriever.

A first choice

The popularity that the color green brought her and the current beauty and cuteness with which she shone helped Shamrock be the first choice of her new family. In other words, among all the puppies in the litter, she was the first to find a forever home.

“The gentleman who receives her has just retired and she will be his world. He already loves her so much. said Carole. “She is so loved now, and she will be so loved in the future – and that makes me happy.”

We hope her new family treats her like a special dog, because that’s exactly what she was from the day she was born.
