You think you know someone…
When Dan and Kelsey Bradley adopted their dog from the local Central Kentucky shelter, they thought they were going to get a Doxie.
But, surprise, surprise, destiny had something else in mind.
Turns out the sweet dog they were getting wasn’t who she claimed to be.
Instead of a feisty but adorable dachshund girl, Dan and Kelsey had…
What a surprise!
Caroline Honey Maybell was 10 months old when Dan and Kelsey welcomed her into their Kentucky home. The super sweet girl from the shelter was introduced to them as a Doxie mix.
It’s quite an adventure raising a dachshund puppy, and the couple are 100% dedicated to it.
“As a shelter dog, we wanted to get a more holistic view of her so we could anticipate any potential health issues or concerns.” Kelsey Bradley said for News week. “We were told she might be a dachshund mix due to the overabundance of unethical breeders in the area. We were told someone left her out the back door of the shelter and she appeared to be a runt.
A puppy who was so cruelly rejected and left at the shelter has finally found a home where he will receive attention, care and love.
Life couldn’t be more perfect!
Well, it turns out it’s possible.
Since Dan and Kelsey weren’t sure if they really had a dachshund mix puppy, they ran DNA tests on Carolina.
She looked like a dachshund. She also behaved like one. It must be a dachshund, right?
*ringing sound*
Fake.
Lovely Carolina was actually a mix of Beagle and German Shepherd! What a surprise!
A Shelter Dog Is Our Favorite Dog Breed
Life doesn’t always give you what you want; It gives you What do you need.
Kelsey needed a Beagle in her life to prove to her how amazing they could be. Before Carolina, she had never wanted one in her life.
“We were so shocked by the results. Mainly because I had always told my husband that I didn’t want to own a beagle due to their destructive nature and need to hunt,” Kelsey said. “But she was the stupidest, nicest surprise ever.”
Prejudice can be so bad, right? If Kelsey hadn’t risked getting a puppy from a shelter, she would have never known that all breeds can be so fun, loving, and sweet. Example #1 – Caroline.
This new addition was truly a blessing to the family, but happiest of all was Bradley’s first dog, Charlie. He desperately needed a companion like Carolina.
“We needed to give our beloved Charlie a friend, a wife and a companion. He was having a moment alone. Then we took her home. He never seemed so happy to meet a new dog. » added Dan Bradley.
Charlie didn’t mind that Carolina was a Beagle GSD mix. All he wanted was a friend…someone to share his days with. And that’s exactly what he got.
In fact, it doesn’t matter what breed of dog you buy. Any dog can be a wonderful companion, whether it’s a dachshund, beagle, poodle or even a doberman. For true dog lovers, the best and favorite breed must be the shelter dog.
Coat color does not matter, as does age, sex and nature. Once you rescue a shelter dog, your life will gain so much value. You will save a life and enrich your own at the same time.
Dan and Kelsey certainly had a nice surprise with Carolina. Maybe you are the next person to save a puppy in need.
