A shelter dog has only one wish: to find a loving home and someone who will cherish him forever.
For Snoopy – a doe-eyed Staffordshire Terrier dog – this wish has been a long time in the making.
This beautiful senior dog spent over 650 days in Benton-Franklin Humane Societyin Kennewick, Washington, dreaming every day of a forever home.
But no matter how much he wanted to be adopted, it unfortunately wasn’t happening… until a shelter volunteer decided to post an article online about this beautiful boy everyone loved so much.
Dreaming of a forever home
Snoopy is an elderly dog with special needs who suffers from Cushing’s diseaseand he gets neglected all the time because of that.
He spent 650+ days at the shelter waiting for his person to come, but unfortunately, it never happened.
Cushing’s disease caused him problems with his hearing, vision and weight. So he has to follow a special diet and take medication to treat it. All of this has contributed to it being overlooked by potential adopters.
All the volunteers at the shelter fell in love with this handsome boy and his sweet nature. Julie Saracenoone of the shelter’s longtime volunteers, recently posted on her social media about Snoopy and his endearing habit.
The video quickly went viral and Snoopy finally received the attention he deserved.
Living behind bars is not easy, so to calm down, little Snoopy sucks his blanket.
Ever since Snoopy arrived at the shelter, he’s been doing this to calm down. “As far as I know, he sucks his blankets and his toys too. He got a Snoopy stuffed animal, and he sucks on it too. Saraceno said News week.
It didn’t take long for everyone to realize what a real lovebug Snoopy is. In the following days, Snoopy received many gifts (blankets, toys, food, donations); however, it had not yet been adopted.
Snoopy received many gifts, but one particularly stood out.
One of Saraceno’s followers, an 11-year-old girl named Emmy, wrote Snoopy a handwritten letter.
“Dear Snoopy, I wish you luck in finding a home. I see you on Instagram and every post makes me so sad because you deserve a loving home. But you are so lucky to be in such an awesome shelter. Remember that disability does not mean being eliminated. Just looking at your face tells me that you are a good soul. Once again, I wish you the best for the rest of your life. I wish I could adopt you myself, but I’m eleven. You are such a handsome boy and I hope you like stuffed animals and treats. Sending you hugs, Emmy.
Dreams come true
Shortly after Snoopy’s story went viral, a local foster rescue (Forgotten dog rescue) decided to contact us and offer an interesting offer.
“We kept seeing videos of Snoopy, an elderly pittie with medical issues who had been at the shelter for two years, and we knew we had to help. The shelter staff and volunteers took great care of him and love him so much, but he deserves to be in a home! » the rescue said in their Instagram post.
So, after two years spent in a kennel, Snoopy finally went to live with his first foster family. Everyone at BFHS was delighted with this news, but the goodbyes were still bittersweet.
They all gathered in front of the shelter to give Snoopy one last hug and say goodbye.
Snoopy is now living with his long-term foster family, snuggling with his blanket, relaxing in his luxurious beds, playing with his toys and feeling all the love!
After all this heartbreak, his dreams finally came true.
