Thanks to the giant-hearted rescuers who dedicate their lives to saving dogs, many of these four-legged furballs end up with homes.
For Donna Lochmann, St. Louis Wandering RescueMissouri, there has been only one goal in his impressive career as a dog rescue: to help as many of them as possible!
As Chief Rescue Officer, Donna has helped countless dogs find their forever homes across the country, and now it was time for another rescue!
But this time it was special! Here’s why…
Here is the hairiest surprise
Lochmann and the SRSL team attempted to rescue Hulu, the stray dog who had been wandering the streets for a while.
This shy girl was just skin and bones and who desperately needs help. The problem, however, was that she was almost impossible to catch!
Hulu was a mother nursing and caring for her newborn puppies somewhere nearby. She did a great job of hiding them from harsh conditions and danger, but Donna and the team had an extremely difficult time finding them. Until the day it happened!
They set a human trap filled with delicious treats for Hulu. After hours of waiting, this mother dog finally arrived and was successfully rescued.
Moments later, Donna and her fellow volunteer heard screams coming from one of the abandoned houses in the neighborhood. When they took a closer look at the crawl space under the house, they were amazed by what they found!
There was a large litter of puppies huddled next to each other on a pile. They had only been open a few days and were extremely small, but they all appeared to be in excellent health.
Donna immediately sprung into action and crawled into a small space to reach the puppies. Once she got a little closer, she was shocked to count ten little babies!
“A mother and 10 puppies were rescued from the streets. Although full of milk, she was skin and bones. You will never believe where we found her puppies. Stray Rescue of St. Louis wrote in a Facebook post.
Happiness forever
After an extensive search and rescue, the puppies were successfully transferred to the facility. The SRSL team immediately placed the puppies in a comfortable room with their mother.
Hulu has been such a great, sweet mom from the start. She took care of her babies 24 hours a day, feeding them and making sure to keep them warm.
The entire team was extremely proud of Hulu and her incredible parenting skills. Even though she didn’t have adequate resources or shelter over her head, she managed to keep her babies safe.
And from now on, they will never have to fear ending up on the street again!
Months after his rescue, Hulu and his family started a new life in loving homes. This mama doggo found a beautiful forever home with a woman named Debbie and her family.
She spent years enjoying a spacious home and endless adventures as part of a large family. With his roommates, Every Hulu Day is Filled with Smiles and Hugsas it always should have been.
Her new mom shared a memory, thanking Donna for giving her beloved daughter a chance. “My Hulu was saved three years ago. She’s a really funny and quirky dog. Thank you Donna Lochmann for always saying yes to a rescue,” Debbi wrote on Facebook.
Thanks to Donna and her incredible teammates, Hulu and her babies were given a new chance at life. And they couldn’t be happier!
