Donna Lochmann, head of the rescue services of the Stray Rescue of St. Louis (SRSL)is a determined animal lover who has hundreds of rescues under her belt.
She often got in her car and drove around St. Louis, looking for abandoned or injured animals that needed her help. She was also getting a ton of calls telling her about her four-legged friends who were in trouble.
So as soon as she got a call about a dog hiding in a trash can under a busy highway, she immediately set out.
Help is on the way
The caller stated that they had taken this route several times over the past few days and every time, without fail, they saw this puppy.
However, when Lochmann arrived, she was unable to spot the dog.
Fortunately, she decided to stay a while and wait for him, and then, all of a sudden, she heard strange noises coming from a pile of garbage.
After getting closer, she noticed an adorable little face looking at her curiously.
Lochmann noticed that the puppy wasn’t sure what to think of her – should he give in or should he run away?
That’s why the determined rescuer decided to approach him slowly while speaking to him in a calm voice and offering him good food in order to gain his trust.
However, the puppy, later named Gibson, was reluctant to take the food, but he allowed Lochmann to caress him, giving him the perfect opportunity to slip a leash around his head.
Although it took him a while to find the courage to get up and walk with him in his car, that’s exactly what Gibson did.
New chapter
Their return to the St. Louis shelter was smooth and Gibson received a nice warm bath as well as delicious food to fill his belly.
Fortunately, as he was such an adorable and good boy, a dog lover noticed him and offered him a warm and caring foster family.
Gibson immediately settled into his new home and was more than ready to start the new chapter of his life.
According to Forbes, 6.3 million animals enter shelters across America every year, making most of them severely overcrowded, and the Stray Rescue of St. Louis is no exception.
“Unfortunately we have to resort to another rescue gel. We loved being on the streets this week, but there are more animals coming in than leaving. We don’t want to do this, we are fighting against this. But we have to say it because it’s the truth. the refuge indicated in a post on Facebook.
That’s why I would like to take this opportunity to urge people to go to their local shelters and offer a helping hand. if not adopt the puppies permanently, then at least welcome them.
This will help the shelter staff and the animals, and it will show them that they are indeed worthy of love!
