As a devoted pet parent, every time I drop my furry baby off at the vet for his checkup, I feel like a part of me is missing. So, I always find myself counting the hours until I can have my sweet girl in my arms again.

Because visits to the vet can be very scary for our four-legged friends, especially when their appointment is a little longer, we humans must prioritize getting them back as soon as possible.

I thought all pet parents felt this way, but then I came across a story about a puppy who ended up staying at the vet longer than he should.

Left over

When Dominique Humphries posted a video on TikTok about an owner who took her puppy to a playdate and never returned to pick him up, the internet was heartbroken.

Humphries said she made several attempts to contact the owner of the Pit Bull and Labrador Retriever mix and each time put them in touch, they would tell him they were on their way.

When no one came to pick up this sweet boy, the veterinarian assistant in Atlanta, Georgia, was left perplexed as to why anyone would do such a thing.

“The owner didn’t want to get the dog back because he was afraid of losing him due to a health problem, even though the doctor had previously told them that the dog was fine. They just got up and left the dog in the exam room, and we didn’t hear from them until the next day. Humphries said News week.

She also said the puppy was super friendly and loved playing with the hoomans.. That’s why the Atlanta veterinary office made sure to give him as much play time as possible, even spending lunch with him.

The video Humphries posted gained a lot of attention and quickly went viral, with countless people expressing concern about the adorable two-month-old puppy.

Pick-up day

Three days later, the owner finally came to pick up his puppy. Unfortunately, as she was working on another puppy, Humphries was unable to face them.

“They came to pick up the dog on the third day he was at my clinic, which really made me sad because I feel like the patient deserves a better home. Since then, I haven’t heard from the owner, I’m scared but I also don’t want to know if something happened to the dog. Humphries said.

Even if many commenters said the puppy should not be with such a neglectful ownerHumphries was in fact bound by veterinary protocol, which required her to care for the puppy until its owner picked it up.

“I wish I could have done more for him, but I have to follow hospital protocols. I hope he’s doing great, but if I have any news later I’ll let everyone know. she concludes.

Last word

I believe the biggest takeaway from this story is that veterinary clinics are not dog daycares!

It is important to remember that our dedicated veterinarians have the very difficult and sometimes even stressful job of keeping our fur babies happy and healthy and it is our duty to try to make their job as easy as possible.

So please, at the next vet appointment, make sure to not only clean and feed your puppies, but also be at your given time slot, upon arrival and upon pick-up!
